Dec 4th 2017

Hey Y'all

Wow the past two weeks have gone by so fast. We have had so many
wonderful experiences and a few humbling ones that I am extremely
grateful for.

First I wanted to express gratitude for all of you. Each of you have
impacted my life in your own unique ways and I am so very thankful
that the Lord has put you in my life. The Lord has given me many
opportunities these past few weeks to get a fresh view of how much I
have been blessed, and how much I have to be grateful for.
Speaking of gratitude. I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and
got to spend it with the people you love. Thanksgiving was great here.
We spent a good chunk of the day with our ward mission leader and his
family. They gave special effort to have atleast one dish for both of
us that reminded us of our family dinners. (So for me lots of potatoes
and chocolate pie 😋). They also took us to see the Christmas lights
under Louisville that night. And we all know how much I love
Christmas. We were also able to hang with the Blackwell's that
evening. Always a party with them and to sweeten the deal they even
had cheesecake 💜. But it was wonderful to talk with them and feel the
love of their family. After having a difficult few weeks the good food
and even better company did a lot to strengthen us both.

Sadly after Thanksgiving we both got pretty sick, and I completely
lost my voice for the majority of this week. Of course blasting the
Hallelujah Chorus from the Handels Messiah with all its soprano
gloriousness at full volume probably didn't do it any favors. But it
was dang fun. And what better way to encourage your trainee to take
the lead than when you sound like a raspy old man that's been smoking
for 50+ years.

But like I said. This past 2 weeks have been full of humbling
experiences that have really made a difference in our companionship,
our work, and our personal process of conversion. I am very grateful
for the opportunities for growth the Lord has given me throughout my
mission. Though they are often very uncomfortable, stressful, and the
cause of serious lack of sleep, they have helped me understand and
gain so much more appreciation for my Savior and His gospel. I LOVE
this gospel, and I love my Savior. God is so good.

This week has been an odd week. I had a doctors appointment Tuesday.
And while waiting the door opens and missionary after missionary comes
piling through the door. It was hilarious. Just a ton of missionaries
in this tiny little waiting room. So of course we had to get a
picture.
We had an awesome lesson with Michael Wednesday. He is so prepared and
so close to being baptized.
We tried our hand at making gingerbread cookies, turned out pretty
good if I do say so myself. We also tried Buffalo Wild Wings with
Leonard and Sarah. Now normally I don't like spicy food. But these
sauces had realllyyyy good flavor so I thought I would try it. Well
you know you're in trouble when you're barely 2 wings in and your
sitting there breathing like a retarded dragon and practically crying
because your mouth and insides are on fire. But it was delicious so I
regret nothing.
District Meeting and interviews with President and Sister Hughes were
this week and we went on exchanges with the STLs. We saw some crazy
cool miracles and apparently I even called "the fires of heaven" down
on a less active. Fun times.
The 1st presidency's Christmas Devotional was Sunday. Sooo so good,
one day I'll get to hear or sing with that choir. We also started the
#LighttheWorld initiative for this year. It's a wonderful opportunity
for people of all faiths to spread the light of Christmas as we serve
as the savior would serve. Y'all better go check it out and
participate. Find it on LDS.org, Mormon.org, your gospel library app,
or your local missionaries. Do it.

Transfer calls are this weekend. I'm super sad to be leaving Salem and
all the people I've come to love so much. Especially right before
Christmas. But I know the Lord has lots more growing experiences for
me these last 2 transfers. Excited to see where he takes me.

Anyway hope y'all have a great week. I love and miss you all.

Sister Hoyt
