Dec 11th 2017 Transfer to new area.
Howdy Y'all
Of course on the most jammed pack week with so many awesome crazy
things going on is the week I have no time to write.... So if I don't
write some of you back I'm sorry. Bear with me as I try to hit on the
most important things.
Saddest and craziest part of the week is that WE are being
transferred. Yep. Both of us. Due to the new stake boundary changes
all the zones and districts of the mission had to be changed as well.
Which led to Salem being the center of a new district, which means the
district leader has to be in the central area. So therefore we got
white washed and are both getting transferred. Which kind of mega
sucks. Especially because we are just handing them the sweetest set up
to walk into, complete with someone ready to be baptized.... yeahhhhh.
It is hard, but this is the Lords work, he knows what's best, so
however he wants to get it done we will do it. Sister Mitchell will be
in the area just under Salem and in the same district so she will keep
an eye on them for me ;p. As for me I am being shipped all the way
across the mission to Nicholasville. Which is in Lexington Kentucky. I
will be in a trio for half the transfer because one of my companions
goes home early for school on the 2nd. So this should be interesting.
I am really sad to be leaving Salem. I feel like I belong here and
love the people so much, but I am excited to see how the Lord needs me
to grow in this new area.
The rest of the week has had us running around like crazy. I think we
spent a total of 10 minutes in the apartment the entire week. It was
awesome!!!
I'll start with Wednesday because I have no idea what happened
Tuesday. But Wednesday we had breakfast with a member, then headed
straight to the food bank Christmas lunch they always do. So much
food, so little time. Having to try and put on pants after that was
not fun. But we did and went to help a new investigator rewire his
barbwire fence. It was actually kind of fun. Then ran home to grab a
granola bar and go teach scripture study. Then had our last lesson
with Michael. Had to tell them I was leaving and we all cried. Super
sad. But he's gonna get baptized soon.
Thursday we went on visits with the Bowmans, hauled some wood, and
then helped the Sullivan's decorate for Christmas. It was super fun.
Had an amazing dinner with the hinds and helped them bake cookies for
the Stake Christmas Devotional.
Friday we had district meeting, more service, taught a few lessons,
and went to help the elderly hinds set up their Christmas tree. They
are both losing their memory, the husband is pretty far gone. But is
the sweetest guy. They insisted on feeding us dinner. All they had
were a few cans of soup in the house. So she warmed up some cream of
mushroom and cream of chicken soup. He had a lucid moment when we were
getting him ready for dinner and knew we were missionaries. He prayed
for dinner and he spent most of the prayer praying for us and started
crying. It was the sweetest thing. They have the coolest story. He was
the president of the temple and a sealer for many many years. The
gospel has become such a part of him that even when he isn't really
there, he still talks about the gospel and how much he loves it. We
spent the rest of the night with Karna and Darren making candy.
Saturday we had choir practice, and lunch with the Bowmans. They were
very upset when they found out we were both leaving. Then we spent
most of the day packing and cleaning trying to get things done and
ready for elders to move in. It snowed for the first time! Just a
little dusting on the road. It was cool, sister Mitchell wasn't very
happy though. Sunday was obviously sad, the branch has gotten so close
to the sisters. But they'll like the elders. The Lord doesn't leave
things the same for too long. Growth requires change. And often forces
us way beyond our comfort zone. But it's for our betterment. It helps
us learn and become.
The Dierkings planned a Christmas dinner for us because we wouldn't be
here for Christmas. They had a big yummy dinner and even got us some
gifts. It was so cool. They gave us an Indiana ornament and a shirt.
It was so cute. They're so sweet to us. And then we went and sang at
the stake Devotional. It was so fun to just sing again. I got to sing
the descants with a few people. It was awesome! The hallelujah chorus
was super fun too obviously. And the spirit is so strong during
Christmas. So it was a great way to end the day.
Anyway sorry for the essay. Love and miss you!
Sister Hoyt
