Sorry all, Got a little behind with Austin's hospitalization so here is last weeks and this weeks.
Hey Yall!
Well it's been a pretty interesting and busy week. We had district
meeting, exchanges, and a baptism this week so we were pretty busy.
So first district meeting was this Thursday. Pretty normal. But after
they decided we needed to go take pictures at the Sulphur well which
is tradition apparently. It's also tradition to drink from it.....
More on that later. But first we went to the Elders house and they
have this really creepy basement where all the missionaries sign the
walls. It's pretty sketchy. They also have a very creepy attic. We
didn't get to go see it obviously we were only allowed in the
basement, but the stories were super creepy. Anyway then we went to
the well. Sister Hafen was dying because of the smell. She really
hates eggs, and Sulphur kind of smells like rotten eggs. So she was
like gagging. And when we get there the elders start drinking from
it........ Apparently it is tradition for everyone to drink from the
well. It's all around the mission. So of course I wasn't going to be
shown up by a bunch of elders. It tastes pretty much like it smells.
Nasty. π☠Sister Hafen even tried to do it. Got like half a sip and
then spat and immediately went for a mint. Proud of her for trying
though. This one elder took like a bunch of drinks. Just trying to
show off. Idiot. This one old guy and his wife came down and got
gallon milk jugs full of it. Saying it's for medicinal purposes...
Yeah natural laxative or toxic farts and that's about it.
Then we went on exchanges. So sister Hafen went to Shepardsville and I
took over the area with Sister Christensen for a day. And I am so
proud of myself! I somehow managed to not get us lost. That is a much
bigger accomplishment then you think. Also planned the whole day
smoothly and we found like 4 new investigators, or potentials. One was
kind of funny. So we are starting this 5 star thing. When you have a
lesson set up or you try a person who isn't there or cancels in you,
you're supposed to knock on at least 5 doors around it. So our lesson
canceled and we were knocking on doors and this cat comes all purring
and rubbing up on us, so we jokingly ask it where we should go and it
starts heading down the street. So we follow it just for the heck of
it and it leads us straight to a door and just stares at it..... So of
course we knocked. And this lady answers and is super nice! She said
she was interested and set a return appointment right there. Miracles.
It's a testimony that we are always in a certain place and time for a
reason, and that you should always follow the cat. πHaha. But
everytime we've done this 5 star thing we've met someone who sets an
appointment with us. Every single time. It shows what just a little
bit of acting in faith can do.
The highlight of the week was Freds baptism. And thanks to Satan, they
never go off without a hitch. So our font is super weird and you have
to fill it up from another room. But that went OK. Then one of the
speakers didn't show up till after it had started, and we were almost
late because we had to go meet Sister Moore and her companion. Sister
Moore and Hafen found and taught Fred so sister Moore was coming down
with her companion, which happened to be Sister Hafens MTC companion.
So Satan was really trying to kick my butt because I didn't feel
great, allergies and possibly a cold had been really annoying for the
past week. Then I felt left out because they were all such good
friends and kind of left me out of the circle a lot, and my first
Baptism in the field wasn't really mine. It was more Sister Hafens and
Sister Moores so I didn't have a super close relationship with Fred,
even though I've come to love him. And sadly I let his stuff get to me
for a little bit. But as we were going I kind of mentally slapped
myself and gave myself an evaluation. I was being very selfish and
negative when I didn't need to be. This day was not about me at all.
It wasn't about who taught him, how smoothly things went, how crappy I
felt, none of that. This was about one of Heavenly Father's children
choosing to enter that gate and path on the road back to Him. This was
about someone accepting and using the atonement of Jesus Christ and
choosing to follow Him. And I felt nothing but joy watching him enter
that font. For just a moment I got a taste of what the scripture meant
when it says "how great is his joy in the soul that repenteth" it was
amazing and I would have missed that if I allowed those negative
thoughts to occupy my mind.
Sunday was pretty interesting too. Freds confirmation went without a
hitch. The interesting part was this lady gets up to bear her
testimony and she spends like 5 minutes going on and on about how no
one pays enough attention to her and her husband or offers to help,
and how they feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome and on and on because
no one goes out of their way to accommodate them. Apparently she has
done this a few times. But also everytime someone tries she gets
really nasty. Sooooo yeah drama. Bishops face thoughππ»
But Sunday was also my birthday/welcome to the area/goodbye dinner all
in one. Our mission leader and his wife make one good meal for every
missionary that serves here and it covers all 3 of the above mentioned
situations. So my meal I chose was Chicken fettuccine Alfredo and
cheesecake. And they did go all out. Homemade Alfredo sauce, bread,
salad, and a crazy 3 layer super rich chocolate oreo cheesecake. It
was diabetic death but guess what?! I calculated the best I could and
took insulin for all of it and my blood sugar was perfect checking it
2.5-3 hours after. 117. Diabetic victory!!! *little happy dance* And
it was heaven. π€π»✊π»ππππ°π
So that's my week. Sorry it's so long again. I just like telling stories :)
Love and miss you all!!
