Well I made it to the field. Sometimes I didnt think I would get this far. But here I am!
We left Monday morning super early and flew out to Kentucky. We first had to fly to Atlanta and then catch a connecting flight. I was super worried because we had less than 20 minutes to get to our new terminal and on the plane once we landed. However the Lord gives us lots of tender mercies because our plane arrived 25 minutes early and we were able to make our gate no problem. Super cool. I got to talk to a lady from Clarkston Michigan, and another guy from South Carolina about serving missions and stuff. It was pretty cool.
Kentucky is very humid and very hot. Lots of bugs. We stayed the night in the mission home with President and Sister Brough. They seem pretty nice. They freaked me out a bit with all the crazy information they were giving us. Especially about all the bugs, especially bed bugs. It makes me feel like Logan, super paranoid lol!
The next day we went to the office and church building to get our areas and companions. I had just dropped my luggage in a room when I walked into brother and sister Naegle from our old ward in Michigan! It was so so cool and such a tender mercy to see someone familiar when nothing else was.
My trainer is Sister Andrus, She has only been out 3 months. She seems pretty nice though. She loves music and a performer. She is from Lindon Utah and has gone to BYU for 2 years. She is pretty understanding and knows that I was probably like freaking out since she was pretty new too, so she is understanding that it takes a while to gain traction. We are in a tiny little hicktown called Paoli, Indiana. Everyone and their dog smokes and drinks here, has no teeth, and has already been saved by their "LAWD JESUS" Our apartment is pretty small and not the best condition but atleast it has AC and no bedbugs.
But we have seen miracles this week. This is a TWE mission which means Talk With Everyone. We pull over all the time and talk to random people. Pretty intimidating, especially since it seems like we have talked to everyone. Most people are politely rude and tell us no. Others are just rude. But one day when we worked really hard we saw a few people who actually seemed interested! some gave us their contact info and told us to come back! woot!
There was a little fall fair thing here so we walked around the little square and talked to people. Not a lot of success but It was still fun to see the fair. We ate their for our dinner one night.
Another miracle I saw was when I followed a prompting. We were looking for a potential investigators house when I saw someone walk into a little trailer house. I told Sister A that we needed to go knock on the door. So we did. There were 2 women, Susan and Glenda. Susan was super excited to see us. She was so prepared. She said she had been looking for the truth for a long time. She was Jehovahs Witness for 2 or 3 years, but left a while a go. She has had a super crazy life. Had all 7 kids taken from her, got into drugs, quit, left her husband who is in jail alot, moved to Indiana, and has been looking for truth ever since. We taught the restoration lesson and committed them both to be baptized in October! We are a little worried about the boyfriend, but have faith that the Lord will help them. So pretty cool.
Sunday was a little rough. We have a "twig" here. We meet in the basement of a Farm Bureau building. There are about 20-30 people who come on a good day. We dont even have Relief Society or Priesthood, and only 1 sunday school class that only about 6 people go to. It was pretty different. And just one of those rough days.
We went to French Lick for P day. Its another little town over here. They have this big old southern charm hotel where a few famous people stayed. Very historic. Made me feel like I should be back in time with a fancy dress and fun music. It has a natural sulfur spring that made it famous. Supposedly was supposed to heal all these crazy diseases so people would come from all over. Super interesting to see.
We have zone conference this week, so that should be interesting. We have to drive almost 2 hours to get to New Albany. We have a car, but only a small amount of miles, so we end up walking and biking alot. It really sucks if the weather isn't good. Been a crazy, hard, but good first week. Hope things will continue to get better and settle, and that I will find more joy and love in serving here. Love you all!
