Allie's First Email Home

Hi Guys!

Well I made it through the first week. It has been a crazy roller coaster type of week. The first day I was ready to turn around and head home. They asked me to stand up and read some paragraphs and then awnser question from the MTC president in front of everyone! It was cool though because afterwards he came and said hi with his wife. The food here is pretty gross. It makes me really miss home cooked meals; and popcorn, and actual cheesecake.

The schedule keeps us super busy, which I am grateful for. It means less time to miss home as much. The mornings and nights though are rough. But we are learning so much already! We pretty much started teaching our first day here. My first companion is Sister Allison McKnight. She is pretty awesome. Shes one of those super popular friendly people. She talks to everyone and anyone and makes friends super fast. She is also a morning person.... I'm still not sure how I feel about that. She has been super helpful and understanding and has basically dragged me through this week sometimes. She also kicked my butt exercising. We went running
(yes Doc actually running) and did lots of lunges this week. I couldn't walk the next day.  We got another companion on Sunday because the other sister in our district went home. Sister Stanley is super sweet. Shes pretty shy and quiet but is the sort of quirky person you just have to love. I kind of doubt outside the mission that any of us would have been friends but I think being a missionary and a representative of Christ allows us to see each other as God does and feel His love for everyone. I truly love them. And even though I barely know the people we are teaching, I already loved them so much from the very first lesson.

My district is just as awesome. We are the only sisters so the rest are elders. We have 11 people in our district. It has been really great getting to know them. We can have all these really awesome experiences and strengthen our testimonies. We also are able to just have so much fun and just goof off when we need those stress break moments. We like to do group scripture readings where we pick a chapter and read and discuss it. We have had great opportunities to help strengthen eachother as we deal with the crazyness of the week. Everyone keeps thinking Im like some scripture google, because everytime someone is looking for a scripture or story they ask me. Everyone just says "ask Sister Hoyt" I don't know why though, I don't feel like I know much..

Sunday was a little different. Especially since we don't have meetings right after the other and so many other things in between. But for the Sunday devotional the Nashville Tribute Band came and played for us and talked about missionary work. I could sing along to most of their songs :) We then watched the devotional by David A Bednar titled "The Charachter of Christ" It was so powerful, and for some reason he always reminds me of dad. He talked about being represenatives of Jesus Christ and how He was always focused outward. He also talked about the difference between conversion and a testimony. I remember having the exact same conversation with dad in Sunday school haha. We had Juan A Uceda of the Seventy come talk to us this week. I got to be in the same room with him and be a part of the choir :) It amazes me how humble the leaders of the church always are. He called US the true servants of the Lord. It was humbling as well as a reminder of the magnitude of our calling. He spoke to us from the perspective of an investigator, sharing his experience and giving special insight.

It has been super hard. I didn't know how hard it would be. But I know the Lord would not have given me so many tender mercies and miracles lately if I wasn't supposed to be here. I know He loves his children and that includes me. I miss you all so so much. Thank you so much for your letters and messages of support. I need them. Love you all and here's to hopefully an even better week.

Love,

Sister Hoyt
