Pretty interesting week. New Years almost started off with a bang 💥 literally.
I hope you all had a great New Years. Make sure you make a resolution
to put Christ more fully in your life this year. It is often the most
simplest things that bring us closer to him and our Father in Heaven.
This week has been a pretty good week. Kind of slow since no one wants
to meet missionaries during the holidays so we had a lot of time for
finding activities. Got a few new potentials that I'm excited about.
Sadly we had to move Justin's Date back because Beccas ex husband
wouldn't sign divorce papers for the last 9 years until this last
month, so it won't be finalized till the first of February. So they
can't be married till then hence Justin can't be baptized till then.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. (side note, that law of chastity lesson was wayyy
interesting).
Also transfer calls are this week and I do not want to be moved right
before the whole reason I came to Paoli is going to be baptized. But
I have to trust the Lord. Even if I may not like it one bit some days.
But God is great so he will always prepare ways to accomplish his
designs.
We've had a few miracles this week with running into and finding
people that seem to just fall out of the wood work. I think it's
because me and sister T finally worked some things out and have gotten
our act together and God is finally answering some prayers. But we've
been able to get in contact with someone I've been trying for months
and set a lesson with her. Found about 4 new people who may be
interested in meeting with us, and found a less active who wants to
change her life around. Yay!!
Also super cool, I got to TWE a girl in sign language! We were at
Walmart. And Sister T tried to talk to a girl and she kind of signed a
little and said can't hear and tried to get in her car, so I quickly
sign "hi how are you?" And she looks a little shocked and said "fine"
then I got to sign that we were the missionaries and stuff before she
said no thank you and got in the car. So that was pretty cool.
Taught a recent convert family (Heltons) about family history and the
dad got so super excited. He wanted to get started right away and
called his mom for information and was just so enthusiastic to do
family history work. They asked a whole bunch of questions about the
temple and the saving ordinances. You could just feel the excitement,
they were practically vibrating. I love that. This is what makes
missionary work fun and worth it. Seeing people get so excited about
the truths of the gospel. Watching it literally bless and change
families.
Also got to do a lot of service. Went to a less active families house
that had a new baby. We were cleaning and organizing and then moving
heavy cabinets around. It was kind of gross because it was pretty
dirty and they're kind of hoarders with some things. I think it's
because they had a fire and lost almost everything, so now they want
to keep everything. I found 2 dead mice behind the cabinet. That was
interesting.. they live across from a big field so when the farmers
cut it down all the mice come running over. But they're an awesome
family.
New Years Eve we spent at the Porters and I made cookies and played
air hockey and Jenga. Watched them through some firecrackers in the
fire. We also sat on the floor laughing for like half an hour over
fart putty. Yep. Fart putty. It was fun. I love the Porters.
New Year's Day was pretty interesting too. Started off with forgetting
my name tag and having to go get it and then having about 10 people at
church. I don't know why it's always on fast Sunday's.... the Rathfons
invited us over for dinner. They have a tradition where they eat
sauerkraut mixed with pork over potatoes and sprinkled with onions. It
was actually pretty good. They were impressed that I ate seconds.
Apparently it's a German thing. On the way back we went to see the
Heltons. While there we heard a few gun shots really close to the
house and it freaked Christine out so Bro Helton went out to go find
the guy, didn't though. So we continued our lesson. And Bro Helton got
a little weird telling us some of his stories before he became a good
guy. Something about releasing the Kraken and waking up naked in a mud
hole where all he could remember from a party was a naked old man with
a balloon on his thing.... yep. Kenton the son was so excited to show
me his new Harry Potter stuff. So we spent a few minutes being
complete nerds. Then he goes into his bedroom and comes out with this
cool Gryffindor hair bow/pin for me. It was really sweet.
Anyway to address the title of this email so mom doesn't get on a
plane and come beat me....
After we had done our TWEing for the night Justin canceled our lesson
so we headed to the library to do some more finding through calling
and texting some potentials we have in our area book. It's about 9 and
all of a sudden we hear screeching and cussing yelling etc. I roll my
window down a bit and this girl falls out of a car coming down the
street then this guy jumps out and the car almost hits the girl who
jumps and falls back so they guy starts screaming and punched the car
and they stop about 10 ft from us. The guy keeps yelling at the guy in
the car as he yells at the girl to get his (f word) daughter out of
the car, but she tries to get back in the car and then the guy pulls a
gun and starts threatening the girl with the child. So we duck down
and call 911. As the car starts to pull away. So then the cops show up
and talk to us. He was really impressed that I knew my guns and could
give good descriptions. Then we just went back to Planning as normal.
No biggie. Welcome to Paoli. But definitely proof that we have
protecting angels. We were standing 10 ft from them with glowing iPads
and a phone and it was like we were invisible. The man never saw us.
Anyway obviously we are fine. God is great and we've had a pretty good
week. There are always miracles to find if you're looking for them.
Even if it's just having 55 degree weather in December. Miss you all!
The book is blue and the church is true!
Love You!
